Mug Rugs

New postby HeyJudee on Fri Dec 16, 2011 11:18 am

Well I finally did some quilting...but it is small...LOL Made a couple of mug rugs. Bonnie Hunter had posted a paper pieced tree pattern which she used to make a mug rug.

I didn't use her mug rug pattern...but used the big tree pattern to make my own mug rug. Just did the pillowcase turn method instead of binding...prefer that on small projects.

One of these will be given to a former colleague who will be going with me to see the musical "Oliver" which is playing in Ottawa tonight. The other one (with a few more still to be made  )...will be given to other former colleagues when I go out to lunch with them next week.

Cute. Now that's the kind of quilting I could get into easily! Looks fun to do. Do you put spices, etc. between the layers?

Nope, never thought of that. It's just regular cotton quilt batting.

You'd have to quilt the top only and insert a little muslin, tulle, whatever holding the spices, herbs, coffee grounds, etc. Or you could quilt a top and a bottom and stick the smelly stuff in the middle. It's certainly do-able.

A bit like having a place to insert a tea bag of spices? But wouldn't that make it a bit unstable to put a mug on?
