It's so cute!

New postby keljo60 on Mon Jul 12, 2010 4:23 pm

I really have a hard time givivg this ine up.

I made this baby quilt for DD#1's bff's first baby and finished it last night. It's gonna be hard, but I'll send it on to her and not hoard it! The main blocks actually came from a scrub top that belonged to DD and is perfect for a baby quilt. I was trying to decide a pattern to use and remembered the Irish Chain patter. Couldn't be better!

I love it, Kelly! Those colors are terrific! I think people either love or hate orange. I'm a fan. :applause:

I'm a fan of orange, but not a huge fan. The main fabric had bits of orange & yellow items, so it worked really well. Here's a close-up so you can see what I mean.

I managed to tear myself away from it and shipped it to baby Claire yesterday.

The squares were cut @ 4 1/16" before sewing. The 9-patch blocks were made with 1 3/4" strips then trimmed to 4 1/16" after they were sewn together. I'm pretty pleased with the corners too! For the first time I used a foot with an edge-guide on it, them moved the needle to the far right position, which makes a scant 1/4" seam. Worked fantastic!

I'm sure all of you know that Walmart is losing their fabric departments. Well, yesterday I decided to get some of the last cotton/poly they had to use for quilt backs. It's white with iron shaped designs all over it. Not something I would normally choose, but good enough for the price. It was originally priced at $1.50/yd and I knew it was 1/2 price, so I took what was left on 2 partial bolts, about 16 yards. I figured that $14 would be good for that much fabric. When it rang up the price was .37/yd! 75% off! Needless-to-say, I had the rest they had measured up and bought it! I think I paid about $13 for about 35 yards of backing fabric! Yeah!!!
