sore eye

New postby carman on Tue Jul 03, 2012 12:15 pm

well when i woke up yesterday i knew i was in trouble, took one blink and YOWIE :o same thing happened 3 years ago and after a few scary days and emergency and eye specialist they came up with Uveitis, http://www.geteyesmart.org/eyesmart/dis ... veitis.cfm so this time i knew what to do, but of course here in Canada yesterday was a stat holiday for Canada day landing on a Sunday :D i knew one day would not be an issue so first think this morning i was at my eye doc at 7 a.m and she took one look at me and said "you poor thing" i didn't think i looked that bad lol. so now i am on a steroid drop every 2 hours AROUND the clock and an pupil dilator so my eye rests and does not focus, which makes reading or to much computer time nearly impossible :( i see her again in the morning to make sure the steroid is doing its thing or if we have to be more aggressive yuck, so my day today revolves round my alarm going off every 2 hours and rest my eye in between.

Carman, I can totally relate. I've had anterior uveitis three times over the years. The first time was so scary...it took 2 visits to a doctor and a trip to the emergency eye clinic in Ottawa to get diagnosed. And I was on the same type of thing...steriods every 2 hours and I had to back to daily for 2 weeks to have the eye pressure measured. And it was sooooo painful. The doctors diagnosed iritis and even made me see an arthritis specialist.

And like you I know the symptoms...but certainly don't agree with you about one day not being an issue!!! I would have been at the emergency even though it was a stat holiday cause I know how painful it is and how long it takes to get over it. The second time I had it I was at the doctor's as soon as I had the symptoms, but my doctor was away and my eye specialist was on holidays too. And it still took a day to get an app't with the emergency eye specialist before I was able to get drops prescribed. So next time...go right away!

i have a history of Sarcoidosis that has been well under control for 20 years now, but the specialists have all said that these are related to each other as both are autoimmune based, it is amazing how in ONE blink you know that you are in trouble with this, it happens like a light switch, at least for me both times. Judy i really debated about going to the emergency eye care, they even have me on file from the last time, but i talked myself out of in the afternoon knowing i only had an evening to wait, if it had gotten anymore painful or sharp pain i would have gone no question

Lennie i checked out the images :o those are gross, thankfully i am one with medium red whites and thick clear tears so my eyes shine and almost no color as the pupils are dilated to the max, so i look kinda funny ;) thankfully i have a very good eye doctor, and retinal specialist that i can see same day if in case something goes funny in the next day or two
