"Now ask me for a 3 gallon pot of chicken and dumplins and I'm good!"

I tend to be the same. I actually am an excellent gourmet cook and baker, but I don't cook or bake much any more and thus seem to have lost a lot of skill, if not desire. :( For years I entertained frequently and very well, belonging to several gourmet groups. I then moved into more informal cooking, but cooking for larger groups. As I have got older I have found I am just too tired to stand in the kitchen following all those steps and it is not as interesting to cook for one on a daily basis. Thus when required, my cooking isn't what I hope it to be. So I stick to old well practiced dishes (always made from a recipe). Further, when I did gourmet cooking one didn't watch the calories or fat content. And a lot of flavour is in those items - I just don't seem to be able to make the conversions except on a daily basis. Surprisingly, I and my cohorts survived and few, if any have any diet related problems today. My daughter, who would never learn to cook when home, now is a great cook and organized to the n'th with very healthy choices. I think it is what you regularly do that makes you good, even if that every day is cooking poorly :?

me to! I hate cooking. What I do make is healthy and passable but ordinary plain food!

I love to cook, it relaxes me. I'm not excellent but I "think" I'm good. I'll try anything with or without a recipe; if I flop, Oh Well!

Sometimes I feel like that. Other times I wonder if I am really like the wife in the old Lethal Weapon movies.

Great attitude - I always chose guests that will go along with it. But I am often surprised. I have one friend who is very good in giving advice. Suprisingly, I don't really care for the type of foods she prepares. Well cooked and taste well, but just not my choices. Isn't the world wonderful that we are all different! ;)

I am a horrible cook. BUT I am allergic to almost everything a person eats! Literally, I can eat maybe a half dozen different things, so I think my bad cooking is a defense mechanism! :applause: But my DH is a great cook, so it works!

I love to cook and like somebody up there said, the kitchen has GOT to be clean first! I think if you enjoy doing something you can be good at it....if you hate to cook, I think it will show! LOL

I love to experiment....sometimes they work out and my hubby says "did you write all that down now!?" And when they don't he is honest about it so thats a good thing too....

I used to belong to recipe book / card clubs...so have tons of recipes I haven't even tried yet!

Kind of like having a stash of material you haven't made anything with yet! LOL
Have a Great Day!

I think what makes a good cook is having a husband like mine that will eat anything and never complain. :D
