I thought I knew what Matte Jersey was

I thought I knew what Matte Jersey was, so I ordered some with some other stuff from Fashion Fabrics Club (I learned about that place somewhere here). I love all my lovely new fabrics except this one.

I thought it was the thick, yummy, soft T- shirt fabric. So what would that be called? And how would you describe matte jersey?

I've never known matte jersey to be thick -- in my experience it is relatively thin and drapy, usually poly and/or rayon with some spandex.

Fashion Fabrics Club is hit or miss, but mostly miss in my experience. What they describe to be "matte jersey" really could be anything!

That sounds like what I got. So maybe I was thinking of a thick interlock?

The ponteroma knit that I made my tops from was a nice thick super soft knit with a bit of stretch to it. Matte jersey is almost like working with slinky fabric. The sleeveless top that I made last summer was from a matte jersey.

Marty, where did you find your ponteroma knit? That sounds like what I want.

I bought it at Hancock Fabrics. It is $12.99 @ yd but the tops that I made were only 1-1/2 yd & I used a 40% off coupon. It was about $15. They had some nice solids & prints. Ponteroma is a polyester/rayon fabric so it breathes in hot weather. I find that my tops are very, very comfortable & wash/dry well. I'm not a fan of cotton fabrics so I avoid them especially cotton interlock knits. Blech!

The cotton knits I used from Joann's are very soft and snuggly feeling. $12.99/yd and cool wash and line dry. When it says line dry it means line dry! Ask me how I know. :brick:

I always buy cotton/poly blends . They are also always interlock. That way I am assured of no shrinking, or stretching sideways as so many tees that you buy will do.. But solids are now averaging 4.99 or 5.99 per yd at Hancocks, whereas I used to get them at Piece Goods for 2.99 all the time. They always had a sale table.. I sure do miss that store..
