White Uniform fabric

Working with a new fabric can be intimidating - discuss everything from washing to needle choice here.

White Uniform fabric

New postby Barbara Span on Sun Sep 23, 2007 3:21 pm

I am ready to scream!
My daughter is a nurse and the company who makes her favorite pants went out of business. No one make a style similar
She asked me to copy them and make some for her. I got the pattern made.

I can't find anyone who sells the fabric. I have been to Joann's, Hancock and every on-line store I can find. No one sells "poly/cotton blend" uniform fabric.
Hancock said they used to sell it, but no longer can order it. Same for Joann's.

Does anyone know where I can find it??

Thanks!!

http://www.scrubs.com/SearchResult.aspx?CategoryID=66 has quite a selection although I have never ordered from them. Price seems quite reasonable compared to what our Cdn price is.

I have also used a good quality 100% quilting cotton fabric for my scrubs and a cotton twill for pants. If I use the good quality cottons, they don't wrinkle as bad and I can get away with no ironing which is a bonus!

The Rn's can wear any color tops but must wear white pants.

I had already checked Denver fabrics and they don't have white.
Laura I will check out the link you provided.
I may need to resort to 100% cotton, but she would prefer not to use that if possible.

I can't believe in a country this size that white poly/cottom blend uniform fabric is so scarce. I will keep hunting.
Thanks again

The cotton twill is nice for winter, though I didn't look to see where you are located, if you are way down south it may be too warm for the twill. And hard to get unless you can pick it up on clearance now that fall is here.

Laura thank you for the link! :D

The manager at Hancock said they used to sell "Racquet" uniform fabric but no longer do and can't order it.
The link for Scrubs.com sells "Racquet" in white.

I will call them tomorrow to be sure it is poly/cotton.
Whew!! The problem may be solved.
You know how it is . We hate to let our kids down when they need us ( no matter how old they are)

All the RTW uniform pants we have found either don't fit her right or they have narrow waist bands. She is thin and when her pocket are full they pull her pants down.
Nurses carry a mini supply room in their pockets.

Thanks again!!

You can usually find some cotton/poly blend sheets on sale and quite inexpensive!

I used white trigger cloth once for uniform pants and lobcoat. The coat was a little warm but it didn't need ironing if I hung it up damp and smoothed out the wrinkles and creasing the pants with my fingers.

Andrea, I've made scrubs from a sheet set a few times-they wear like iron!! Great suggestion.

I used to put larger than normal cargo pockets on my scrub pants-had to carry a police style radio in one, and a drawstring in addition to the elastic in the waist. With all the weight of the radio plus my supplies I could never keep my pants up.
I just used bottom weight cotton/poly blend that I got from Joanns. It was 60 wide which was a bonus.
