What were they thinking?

New postby kaitlinnegan on Thu Feb 07, 2008 6:42 pm

Have you ever seen a pattern or article of clothing that just boggled your mind? Maybe you have already seen this pattern:

Vogue 1029
...aka the wedgie dress. The front actually looks very pretty..but the back...??? I'm sure there's someone out there who would wear it, but (heh) I just don't think there are enough home sewists who would sew this dress for themselves or someone else to justify printing such a pattern. You'd certainly have to have "buns of steel"! :)

I think there was a 30 minute window in my life that I might have been able to wear something like that

Kaitlin,
You probably will not believe this, but it is the truth.. Last week I saw that same picture in our paper.. I don't remember whether it was Sunday or a weekday, but I'm almost positive it was the same picture.. Same Model, anyway.. But the one I saw had one difference.. You could very definitely see a panty line on her rear end.. If it is the same picture, then they have air-brushed it out to get rid of that panty line.. It may have been in Parade magazine or something, but I remember it being in color, because of the dress color in this picture. (same color) Or maybe I saw it on TV, but I saw it somewhere and the panty line was obviously visible..

Interesting. Looks gorgeous on the model.

What's sad is the number of women who will wear it that shouldn't. It should not come in sizes other than "Super Svelte" or "Super Toned". That's all! ;)

My 19 yr old daughter saw it in the pattern book last weekend. She called it the "booty" dress. I asked her if she wanted it and she said "no" that it would look awful on her as she has a small backside. I can see a teen wanting something like that for a dance. Other than a celebrity, I can't picture anyone wanting it.

Maybe it's just me, but I can't imagine anyone looking good in that dress, regardless of their body shape. That's one of the patterns/pre-made clothes that make sad -- I think of all those poor women who will buy the pattern/outfit thinking it looks cute, when in reality, it doesn't.... :-P

Take a look on the bright side though... no one would know if and when you had a wedgie!

Jen, you are so funny :D I would imagine thong straps would show in this one...maybe it is a commando dress :o :o

I wouldn't think very many people would look good or be comfortable in this dress.

nothing like encouraging women to become anorexic! You'd have to be to be able to wear something like that!

I honestly don't even think I know anyone who would be able to wear that dress and look good in it.
