Victorian smoking cap

My SIL has a passion for Sherlock Holmes and Burlesque - anything that involves you being dressed as a chap al la PG Wodehouse. Seems to me the thing that every gentleman needs to complete his attair is a smoking cap and jacket - I don't have the time or energy to make the jacket but here is the hat!

Initially raiding the stash produced a black fabric with gold tracery - I highlighted the leaf design with gold metallic thread and fused interfacing to the back of the fabric to help the structure

Following this the assembly of the hat (which is basically a pill box shape and lining with a gold brocade)


Here modelled by the bust of my Grandfather

and finally completed with some gold braid and a tassel

Grandad has been in the family a long time ( naturally) I made him when I was 15 - he is a coil pot.

Well, I'm sure your young fellow will be pleased with that! He will look so very Victorian in it. It will go so well with his pipe and he can tell his friends "My crazy mother-in-law made it." That's what my son-in-law tells his friends about his pin-up-girl-shirts.
