I'm making grocery bags for the stash challenge, so I figured I'd post them here as I finished them.

That's great! Did you use a pattern or tutorial of some kind, or just wing it? I've been meaning to make some of these for myself, but it always seems to get pushed to the bottom of the list. I have a couple tutorials, but I'm not sure what size bag would be the most useful.

When I made some grocery bags, I used a brown paper bag (grocery size) for a pattern and just added short handles on the top.. (they look about the same size as the handles in that picture.) I have fabric to make more.. that is on my agenda for this month..

That is very cute. I made bags for myself, and two of my daughters. I just wish that grocery people wouldn't give you 'the look' when you ask them to use the bags rather than plastic.

Hey - I'm a grocery person....but I don't give "the look" to anyone If you want to bring your own bag and put your groceries in it, go for it. I work in a small neighborhood store with the regular weekly and sometimes daily customers. Usually the people who bring their own bags also pack their own bags....less for me to do....and I love them! We have a lot of people who come in for just a few things and ask for no bag at all. Then there are ones who say to pack them heavy so they don't get too many bags, and a lot prefer paper bags. I just try to smile and accommodate them all. Maybe that's why my line is always the longest.

My bags are the ones you buy for a buck or two right in the store. What you probably want is large and strong. Quite large and very strong. One store here gives you a few cents off your total bill for every reusable bag you use -- theirs, another store's or your own.

Our commissary is selling reusable bags now but I don't think they will hold up to very heavy loads as it looks like a nonwoven thin fabric and the bags are smaller than the 'normal' size plastic bags. If I only get a few items I ask that they not be bagged and I get strange looks. I've been known to pull things out of bags and leave the bag behind when they do bag them. One of these days I'm going to make some bags and keep in the car so I'll have them when I do go shopping.
BTW loved the bag, great job. Looks like the bottom is reinforced, good for heavy loads.

I started a thread a while ago regarding making your own bags. The thread went on a lot longer than my enthusiasm. Now I feel it again. I guess I get a little put off since I never shop for just a couple of things. I need at least 10 bags that size for my shopping trips. But, I may as well get started. 1,2, or 3 bags is still better than none.
