That hat pattern is so simple! I can feel hats coming on for Christmas - if ever I get the slayer finished.

"The Slayer" looks like a whole lot of boring knitting especially if you're making such a large size. And black! That's tough at night especially! Hats should be fun. I never wear one. Maybe I should.

I did see this cool pattern for a neck warmer/hood. http://www.knitpicks.com/cfpatterns/pat ... D=10354220 Anyone else use Knit Picks? I love their site and have ordered from them 3x now. They have this pattern in crochet too I noticed. I'm already thinking of my next project.

Dorothy, have you made the "Long Cat Scarf"? I remember something about that and you. Would love to see your dragon scarf too.

I made the scarf and posted a photo, Lennie.

Here it is ... http://talk.sew-whats-up.com/viewtopic.php?f=37&t=5311

The dragons use the same double knit technique.

Lennie, done the back ,front and both sleeves - hood to go. I don't have to do anything while I am knitting but knit or read so it grows by itself.I rarely do just plain knitting as it is so boring - but it is in aran wool so it is making up ok. I was given a bag load of knitting magazines on Wednesday by friend 1 at at a friends 2's house - treasure. Left them behind like a clutz, arranged for the friend 2 to drop them off with his daughter on Friday at friend 3's house then left them at that house too. Friend no 3 will bring them to church on Sunday and staple them to me.

Finished the black hat and learned a very good lesson, don't ever knit with Dollar store yarn! This stuff has tons of stretch but no bounce back at all! It looks horrible, and I know it's the yarn. So I gave it to my co-worker told her to wash it and see if it returns back into shape and if he likes the style, I'll buy the yarn and make another one for him. Then have ripped back to the right size for mine and will start on it again. Was going to do it at breaks today, but just didn't have the heart to work on it, this is the 3rd time making this stupid hat.

Laura,
I got some dollar store yarn that was really good to work with and made a great shawl with it. The only problem -- even I wouldn't wear those colors.

You know Dorothy, this yarn probably would have worked better for a shawl, It just has no shape as a hat.

Well ladies, I don't knit or crochet but I bought the coolest looking yarn at joann's yesterday...and it was on clearance for $6 and the other colors were about $10-$12. It is Bernat Handicrafter cotton twists in gold/coral/blue/mint green. Its 4 ply 12 oz. approx 608 yards. What can I have one of my quilty friend's DD make for me from that? I was thinking a scarf, what do you think, do I have enough?

Here are several projects using that yarn:

This shawl uses one skein:

I like shawls made with cotton yarn. :D A tote bag would be great as well.

Here's a great cotton scarf. I might have to make this one with some Peaches and Cream yarn I have in my stash. :D
