Hospital

For the past week (7-8 to 7-15) I was hospitalized with a mini-strok and some facial paralysise. The big scare wasn't the stroke but how my veins were difficult to penetrate for medications. On last Tuesday, they put in a Midline (smaller than a PICC) in my right upper arm to get an IV started. However, with all of the blood thinners, my blood was so thin that it washed out the Midline and I had uncontrolled bleeding for 4 days before they could get it to stop. Finally, they were able to get an IV line in my left upper arm. I lost over a quart of blood during this time so I am weak. The hospital used a tight compression tape bandage to get the bleeding stopped but it came at a cost. When it was removed, it burned my skin to the point that I now have 2nd degree burns on my right upper arm. My left arm is black, blue and purple from all of the attempts to start an IV and from drawing blood. This was one of the most painful hospitalizations that I have ever had. In spite of all of this, I had the most wonderful nurses and PCA's that anyone could ever want. I am so thankful for my blessings. I will heal and it will take some time. Looking forward to doing a little mending today with my machines.

Glad to hear you are back home and sewing again. Sorry that you had such a rough time of it when it came to them starting IVs. Glad you are able to do the sewing you love.

I’m very sorry to hear about that. That must have been quite scary. I’m glad they finally got things working and that you’re home now. It’s great what medicine can do about the big things, but sometimes the human touch is what makes all the difference. I hope your healing goes well. Keep us updated; you’re in our thoughts.

Thank you ... I am healing ... I have a slight droop on my right cheek and right eyelid. My doctors think it will clear up over time. I did have to get new eyeglasses as my vision was affected. Overall, I am back to sewing, teaching classes and staying so busy that there is no chance of any type of pity party. LOL!!! Sewing is my gift and my passion to give to others to help them find the joy I feel when sewing for others. I am so blessed, happy and content with my life as it is.

Went back to the hospital for a few days this past weekend. I had heart failure brought on by or in conjunction with a bronchial spasm. Back out and doing well. The good thing is that I have a reduction in dosage of my meds. Being in the "donut hole" that is very helpful. Back to sewing all day yesterday at the church and am resting today while doing laundry and some more sewing.
