My shirt still sits on my ironing board, waiting for the first stitch!

My second Mother's Day as a married woman, I was 19 yrs old and had a newborn infant. I cried because my DH didn't remember me in any way on Mothers day yet he was sure to visit his mother and give her a gift. My Dad had always honored my mother as she was the mother of his children. It was one of my first realizations that I had married into a different culture than the one I was born into. I probably wont give DH a gift except for dinner out tomorrow on my income. Our sons will be celebrating their own days as fathers in their homes.

DH got a hand made card from the 6yr old DGD with a Tim Horton's gift card in it. We don't exchange gifts on Mothers day or Fathers day. My dad always got ties, cause he always had to wear one to work anyhow.

I finally did some sewing on the pants today. I decided to start there as the machine was already loaded with that thread and needle. The shirt is all cut out, maybe I can sew on it a little tomorrow before or after work.

I've been quilting too much!!! These 5/8 inch seam allowances seem so huge! Such a waste of fabric. I get it on the actual garment seams but it is nuts on a patch pocket especially when the instructions say to trim to 1/4 inch. Why not just start with 1/4 inch seams in the first place? OK my rant is over, back to sewing pockets.

That's what I do, Gina. I seldom ever sew with 5/8 inch seam allowances. It's a waste.

me too, the only time I use the 5/8 is on side seams to give me some wiggle room jic.

OK I need help now. I'm on the zipper fly instructions. Shorts C, Step 4. It says "...placing lower end of zipper 1/4 inch above large dot...." Do they mean the metal stop or the end of the zipper tape should be 1/4 inch above the dot? It seems crazy for it to be the end of the zipper tape but that is what the little picture shows.
