Wanting to make a Mrs. Claus to go with DH Mr. Claus

New postby sewhappyrtr on Fri Oct 14, 2011 8:35 am

Hello,
Well, DH will be playing Santa Claus at the daycare/preschool where we work (janitor work). I had already made him a Santa outfit, yrs ago when he played it at our local Festival of Lights lunch with Santa. I am looking for a Mrs Claus to wear while he plays Santa for the kids. I have not found a pattern for Mrs. that I like, so am thinking of this one

http://www.simplicity.com/p-1991-costumes.aspx Simplicity 3723.

There was a OOP one that I like, but can't find it anywhere.('http://betsyvintage.com/index.php?main_page=popup_image&pID=3925') Butterick Mrs. Santa Claus Gown, Cape, Apron Pattern 18, 20, 22 http://betsyvintage.com/index.php?main_ ... ts_id=3925.

I made his in a fuzzy material.. I am not sure right now exactly what it is... not fleece, not velvet (that was WAY TOO expensive when I made his outfit) and I put white fuzzy around the neck, sleeves, and bottom of the top and around the legs ... I don't even know if I can find the same fabric now to coordinate our outfits.. So I need the expertise of everyone here to help me do this!!! :D :D

Thanks everyone!!!

Karen,
Last year at our high school Christmas luncheon, our friend who is married to the traditional Santa in our group. Took a red Sweater and trimmed it in fake fur (white) and then made a white cloth circle and put elastic all around an inch inside the edge and trimmed it with little tiny red bows made from 1/4 inch satin ribbons. She wore a white blouse underneath and a red print skirt, because she had no money for renting a costume. If I were you I would pick a fabric and make a top and pants or skirt , trim in fleece or fake fur, and then make a cute mob cap like the one I described. But I would not put a lot of money in it, most fabrics will last a long time anyway, costly or not.

Karen, I like the second pattern (Butterick) better. I would use a white velour/velveteen for the trim. It won't shed like white fake fur. Just get enough fabric & re-trim your hubby's costume so both will coordinate. It shouldn't take a whole lot of fabric.

I think I have decided to get a long skirt pattern, wear a long sleeve white blouse, trimmed in something ;) ;) and make a mop cap like Libby mentioned, and make a apron to go with it.. gonna go to Joann's tomorrow and look at patterns, and material, taking a piece of the Santa outfit with me to help get something similar... and of course get a grey/white wig somewhere to wear so the kids don't recognize me!!! Perhaps when all is done, I will post a pic... :D :D :D

That's so cute sounding, Karen. My advice? Sit down at your computer and look up patterns jotting down numbers rather than sitting there looking through those cumbersome books. I do it every time I want to take advantage of those 10 for $10.00 pattern sales.
