Melting outside, Freezing in AC

Many thanks to all of you that welcomed me.

I hear that the rest of the US (except Tahoe where it is still snowing) has experienced record hot temperatures - up to and exceeding the Arizona-esqe tipple digit mark.

So, if the rest of the US is like Arizona, that means the AC has been set so low in restaurants and stores that ice forms on one's glasses upon entering a building! Here are some hints from the Valley of the Sun on dressing for the triple digits...

1. Wear a dress that is comfortable and sleeveless (dresses always seem to be cooler than shorts)
2. Always - ALWAYS have a sweater within easy reach.

This Arizona dress meets Rule #1. It is a dress, sleeveless, above knee, and of knit fabric for comfort. The AC-proof sweater is always in my purse to prevent the chills (and meet Rule #2)

The lower portion of the dress is Butterick 5485, but the upper portion is a refit and then refit again pattern I use to upcycle Team T-shirt (I wear them to my daughter's games/meets) into more appropriate garments. It is probably the most comfortable dress I have ever owned - and best of all, it is "Stash Couture"! Everything used to make the dress came from The Stash.

The sweater was knit with Stash yarn that contains a high percentage of bamboo. Basically wrinkle-proof and a beautiful buttery yellow (my favorite color). I liked the pattern because it had a rather high neckline - which is where those air conditioning fans (which I believe are actually jet engines!) seem to blow most of that sub-freezing air!

So, I guess if there is a moral to this story, it must be that if the temperatures are supposed to climb again - look to the Stash for cool (for outdoors), warm (for indoors) and comfort (everywhere)!

That is so cute, Susan. We have temps in the high 90's with the heat index in the low 100's. I primarily stay indoors under my a/c units. I cannot tolerate the heat & humidity. Can't remember if AZ has any humidity or not. Haven't been there since 2nd grade & that was a long time ago. You did a great job on your outfit from your stash. I'm purging my sewing supplies & fabrics as I've run out of space. I don't have a sewing room or closet & I cannot invite friends over as there is no where for them to sit between my sewing & my daughters things. A very sad state ... my excess sewing supplies & fabrics are going to Grace Place ministries to help women in prison.

Both are really nice Susan. I really like the little sweater. I do try to knit, but I have such a terrible time with sizing that I have given up knitting for me. At least when I knit for the grands, if it's too big, which it usually is, they will grow into it, if they don't, DD always can find someone to gift it to.

Darling dress and darling sweater. I love the butter yellow but it does not love me so I can't wear it. I'm a "Winter" if you remember the old "Find your Season" craze of the '80's. I'm guessing we don't live too far from each other either. Maybe a couple hundred miles or so since I'm in the middle of the southern most part of Calif. Here the heat still hasn't reached us. Insane to still be so cool for us. Today was a high of 74 or so and we're topping out at 79 tomorrow before going down to 72 by Friday again. Not normal for us at all!

My rule for the heat? Cotton and sleeveless. The blasting a/c isn't quite such a problem here. We have a window unit in our master bedroom cause we like to sleep at 64 but for the rest it's just not necessary.

Very nice work. I can't knit sweaters. I used to say I can't knit but I have discovered there are lots of things I can knit -- most anything but sweaters. i don't mind much though because I've never worn sweaters much. I prefer a jacket and, for me, they are more fun to make.
I've been sewing down my stash lately because I'm pretty broke. I'm darn glad I have a good sized stash to work with.
