Pattern alteration question

New postby temom on Mon Apr 25, 2011 4:25 pm

in another thread, I've talked about making a pattern from my favorite worn out pair of seersucker capris. There are too many problems with my homemade pattern, but I want to use it for sizing on another (Kwik Sew) pattern. When I compared my homemade pattern to KS, My waist size is a Large, but the leg width is XS. I figured I can compromise with a leg width of Small. So here are the questions:

Should I taper from size large at the crotch line down to knee, and therefore have about 5 or so inches below the knee that are uniform in width.
Should I taper from crotch line down to the hem?
Should I taper from different starting points and ending points?

My flab is all in the abdomen. Any ideas? I'm not looking for award winning here, just comfy. I live in capris most of the year.

Theresa, what is the ease of the Kwik Sew pattern? It may make a difference. To get the correct length for capris & width, you will need these circumference measurements - waist, high hip, full hip, thigh, knee, & calf of your leg. You will also need your crotch length & crotch depth measurements too. Compare your measurements against the pattern. Determine how much ease or negative ease that you will need for comfort. Then adjust the pattern from these figures. Hope this helps.
