My Sewing Space

New postby MartySews2 on Wed Feb 12, 2014 7:09 pm

Over the years, I've lamented my lack of a sewing room. Well, most of my living room (the main area of our home) has now become my sewing room. Here are some photos that I recently took.

Thanks for sharing! I like the table you have your sewing machine on...that's a great idea.

Smilie, I got the table for the Melody at Home Depot's online website. It is actually an entry hall mahogany console table but fit the width, depth and height that I needed. It is under my living room window between my china cabinet and antique sofa. My furniture is from the 1890's as it was my hubby's grandmother's summer porch furniture. Hubby is almost 71 yrs old so the furniture is very, very old. My piano, not seen, is from 1878. The room measures 12 x 16 and is the largest room in our home.

Thanks for sharing the pictures of your room! It's nice to see you're able to be so productive even without lots of space. I need to stop pouting about only having one room to use currently. That's more than I had when I first started sewing, and I made some great things then! I just got spoiled by having two rooms while my son was in Japan. I'll just need to figure something out for now. Maybe I'll set up a table in the corner of my bedroom again, although I know my hubby hated it. He said he felt like he was sleeping in the middle of a dress shop!

In any case, your room is a great reminder that while a large space might be more convenient, it's not absolutely necessary.

When our kids were little the only space I had was the foyer! Had a small table there and cut out my patterns on the dining table and had to set the ironing board up in the kitchen. Seemed like I was always moving around from place to place then but I sewed all the children's clothes, most of mine and even shirts and trousers for DH.

I just got spoiled having two rooms to spread out in. When I first started sewing a few years ago, I set up a table in the corner of my bedroom for my machines. I had the ironing board in the adjacent bathroom, and I managed just fine. My husband didn't like all of the sewing stuff in our room though...we once had a little "incident". Note the similarity of the two cans in this photo. Then imagine what could happen if the one on the left was sitting on top of the bathroom counter, and my husband just got out of the shower and therefore didn't have his glasses on....
