Correct bobbin thread

New postby LilyMom on Tue Sep 21, 2010 12:13 pm

Hi, I am new at machine embroidery, just picked up a used Kenmore 19010 Ergo 3. Am having a balst trying to figure out what I can do with it. I am confused as to what thread to use on the bobbin. Do you use a generic color like white or do you try to match a color in your pattern?

depend what you are doing :D napkins and place mat type things i will use a color that closely matches the project, if you cannot see the back then i use a either a light or dark gray the majority of time but will use white too as i seem to have a lot of prewounds at the moment lol

I use white or black 60wt bobbin thread in my bobbin when doing machine embroidery if the back is going to be covered. If the back of the design will show, I use 40wt embroidery thread for the bobbin. I'm very finicky & only use Madeira embroidery thread for my designs.

I'm pretty much the same as Marty and Carmen, but if I am doing letters, I use the same color as in the top as I find sometimes my machine tension goes off a bit and I end up with bobbin thread showing, so then if I use the same color, it doesn't matter. I also like using a 60wt bobbin thread when embroidering.

Thank you for the advise. I see the advantage of using the same color for letters. I was playing around with names and some of the bobin color sis come through. glad I found this website. I am sure I will have many questions as I play with my machine. Thanks again. Beth

Serger thread works just fine.I usually just use white except when it'll show.

I have used serger thread in the bobbin when embroidering too, I haven't had any trouble with it either.
