Cotton type embroidered kitchen towels

New postby sewhappyrtr on Fri Dec 11, 2009 6:47 am

Hello., anyone ever machine embroider these? These were what my dear departed mother always used in her kitchen ( I like the other kitchen towels). I was thinking of finding some and machine embroidering on them for my 2 sisters for Christmas., ( I know .. a little bit late in thinking of this, esp. since I work every day., and am having hand/wrist surgery the 17th)
where can I find these towels at? I have looked at Kmart., will look at Walmart and Kohls today.
Our Shopko used to carry them but of course the Shopko is closed now., ( has been for about 3-4 yrs :) :) )
I have never machine embroidered on towels so have no clue how to start this. Do I use water soluble backing ?? That is what I am thinking I should use..
Thanks for all the advice I know I am going to get.. :D :D :D :D

Hmm...My local Wal-Mart has some. Maybe you can try a store like Bed Bath and Beyond.

Karen, I've seen those towels at Hobby Lobby for about $8 for a package of 2. You would use the same stabilizer as for any tightly woven fabric since they don't have a nap.

I bought some soft woven cotton towells at Beds bath and beyond last Saturday. Perfect for embroidery. A couple of years ago I bought huck towelling at Hancocks. It does shrink and wrinkle when washed.
