Brother 1500S

New postby bridesmom on Fri Aug 27, 2010 10:38 pm

I am really thinking about picking up one of these. I've been saving like mad and have enough to order one. Anyone have one? Any opinions?? I'm wanting a mid arm machine for quilting, just needs to sew a straight stitch and a zigzag.

That is a seriously fast machine! I think it is as fast as my serger. The one I looked at on ebay came with an extension table and walking foot. Sweet!
I wonder if Brother is including these with all these machines, as they were included in the sewing machine I bought for dd, but it cost much less than this one.

Laura, I googled and found this site which gives the specifications for that machine. Unless I'm wrong, I don't think it has a the Needle Up/Down feature. Nor does it have a speed control. These are two features that I wouldn't do without...especially the needle Up/Down. That was my requirement when I went shopping for a machine to do free motion quilting. I bought a Janome Memory Craft 6500P.

This machine is similar to the Janome 1600P. The Janome doesn't come with the extension table but you can get one for it. I don't know anything about prices though. Also, Leah Day used to use a similiar machine but it was Juki. (She just bought the Janome Horizon) You might want to check out Janome or Juki to see their features and prices. Just some of my thoughts.

The needle up/down is a definite need to have, and this doesn't zigzag which I'd also really like. I also just heard about the Janome 7300 (?) with an 11' arm. So many choices! There is a Janome dealer in town but they have a terrible reputation and I won't deal with them, but at least I could go see the machine and maybe try some out.

It's the Janome 7700 also called the Janome Horizon. If I didn't already have the 6500, I'd buy one. Heck I almost did when i saw it at a store outside Ottawa. It was only a bit more than what I paid for my 6500. But I came back down to earth when I thought about travelling there for servicing and the classes and I had a perfectly good machine...

I have the Janome 6600p and it is a wonderful machine. The adjustable speed controll and the knee lift for the presser foot are great not to mention. cutting the threads at the punch of a button and built in walking foot and mine came with the extension table and a sewing table. It is a flat bed machine (No free arm but I can live with that). It comes with a nice assortment of feet also. I'm sorry that I do not know about the Brother machine.
