My brother is living in England right now and he found this treasure. Our last name is Jones (at least mine was before I got married). So, his wife thought this was cool. She was planning to toss out the machine and use the base as a table, but then tried the machine and found that it still worked quite well so she's keeping it.
Does anyone know anything about Jones sewing machines? I've never seen one stateside.

That is a beauty, Shelly. I think it may be a badged Singer from around the early 1900's. Go to Linda Winkins' site
http://www.sewing-machine-manuals.com & I think you can found out some information on it or on the ISMACS site.

Thanks Marty,
Look what I found!
http://pages.sewing-machine-manuals.com ... 18716.htmlI'll have to share that info with my SIL. I don't have the exact model number, but that one looks about right to me.

I have a Jones machine that my Great Grandmother bought in 1906. It was secondhand as she couldn't afford a new one and it has all the original bits and pieces with it, including the instruction leaflet. It uses spindles not bobbinsand I have no idea exactly how old it is.
This is what I found about Jones on Google
William Jones started making sewing machines in 1859, and in 1860 formed a partnership with Thomas Chadwick. Trading as Chadwick & Jones they manufactured sewing machines at Ashton-under-Lyne. This partnership was short lived and in January 1864 Thomas Chadwick joined Bradbury & Co.
In 1869 William Jones opened a factory in Guide Bridge Nr Manchester and the firm became incorporated (Limited) on 5th July 1879. The company survives today as Brother UK Ltd.
The Jones Company produced a variety of machines for both Domestic and Industrial use.

What a beauty. Every time I see something like that I think I should clean my old Singer treadle up. But then what would I put my serger on?
That thing wonderful. Sewing on a treadle is very relaxing, once you get the hang of it.

Oh my Jill, that is interesting information.
Our dad's name is William Jones!
He's obviously not the same Wm. Jones that came up with this machine, but our family tree takes us back to Wales until the early 1900s when some brave Jones came to the U.S. and begat the rest of our family.
I can't wait to share this info with my brother.
