Frustrated with my machine

New postby momquilts on Mon Nov 09, 2009 2:43 pm

I have a Janome Heart Truth that I bought in June 2008. I love it - or did until it started it's new trick. It continues to sew when I have released the foot pedal. I took it to the closest authorized repair shop which is an hour away from here, in another state. I made sure to tell the lady what it was doing and that someone on this board said they had to replace the foot pedal due to a short. They cleaned the machine ($80) and kept it for almost two weeks. I called them to find that the machine was ready and sitting waiting for me to come get it. What happened to customer service and a call that it was done? Geez! I had it home less than 24 hours when I almost lost a finger from the self-sewing feature that was never fixed. OK, so I'm exaggerating, I didn't come close to losing a finger, but I did lose my temper. When I called the shop, the lady who wrote up my repair had to check with someone else before she could tell me to bring it back. Of course I'm taking it back. Should I insist on a new foot control? It seems to be fine for short periods of sewing but I was off today and used it quite a bit between last night and all day today.

Any suggestions how I should handle this repair shop? You can be sure that it is the last time I will go there....the tech who does the cleaning travels an hour - from the town right next to me - to go to that shop and do their work! I think I will check him out next time I need a cleaning. It would save me 45 minutes drive time, bridge toll and gas to get a machine cleaned.

You should ask to speak to the repairman also loook at the work order after it is written. I took in the my foot pedal with the machine and when I told them about it they just right away tried another pedal. Ask them to try a different pedal on it right away. My repairman, if he can't find whats wrong wont tell me. He usually just cleans it and sends it back. I cought up with that last time I had a problem. From now on I will take fabric and show him what the problem is instead of him just relying on a work order.

Gosh, I'm so sorry. My machine does the same thing, but it is because while I'm sewing the corner of the pedal slips under the plastic drawers under the table
That is certainly user error on my part.

When my Babylock X-scape did that, it was a short in the circuit board. Babylock repaired it at no cost to me & it had to be sent back to the plant in St Louis, MO. I had it in the shop 3 times before the error was finally discovered.
