In Oxford they punt from the wrong end(the pointy end) - in Cambridge we stand on the flat bit at the back of the boat and push ourselves along with a large pole. The boat is long and flat bottomed with very little draught. If of course your pole gets stuck in the mud and the boat carries on it is a bit of a Tom and Jerry omen - do I keep hold of the pole or let go? Running the bridges is where you climb up one side of the bridge as the boat goes underneath, over the top and back into the the punt again on the other side. Tricky - one of our number did it. Nobody else tried! You have to understand in Oxford they think that Cambridge punt from the wrong end.
