Happy May Day

New postby sewingrandma on Thu May 01, 2014 3:52 pm

Anyone else remember making May baskets and leaving them on doorsteps then ringing doorbells and running away once the door was answered? I used to have fun making the baskets and decorating them and filling them with treats. The schools I attended also used to have a May pole where there were crepe paper streamers and we would grab a streamer and then proceed to walk in and out with the other students and wrap the pole. Haven't done any of that for way too many years now, in fact I hadn't thought of it until someone wished me a happy May Day today and the memories came flooding back.

We never did anything like that when I was growing up. Sounds like a lot of fun.

omg, Brockie! I posted on facebook doing that very same thing with the may baskets. My mother tried to have us use a May pole once for my birthday....it was like herding cats. (But then, we were about 6 or 7 then too)
