An off day

I just spent nearly 2 hours at JoAnns. I spent a while looking through the Simplicity catalog and picked out 5 skirt patterns. I couldn't decide which 2 to get, but sice they were 5 for $5, I put them all in my basket. Then I spent a loooooooong time picking out the perfect fabric. I finally found 2 different pieces I liked, so I waited in the Saturday afternoon length line at JoAnns to have my pieces cut. I get to the cutting table, and it turns out there's not enough fabric on the bolt for one of the two pieces, so I just got the one cut. After waiting in the Saturday afternoon-length line to check out, I learned that Butterick patterns were on sale, not Simplicity. So I didn't buy those. Then the fabric I had picked out was on sale (10%), so I couldn't use my 50% off coupon....so I didn't buy that either. Two hours in the store and nothing to show for it. Unfortunate.

I wasn't meant to be. Time for a cuppa and put your feet up. BTW, I count the wraps on the bolt. One complete wrap is about 1/2 yard. At least it lets be know if I have a chance there is enough for my project.

Congratulations on not buying anything when you couldn't get what you intended to buy! When I step outside the store on a day like that with nothing in my hands but my purse, I feel very free! LOL After the initial disappointment, I think of all of the money I saved, and how I really ought to shop my stash and make something from the stuff I bought in my last zillion trips to the fabric store. That's awful. I really do hope your day got better after that!

I feel like the only reason Jo-Ann's puts anything on sale for less than 40% is specifically to make it impossible for people to use coupons on those things--those "sales" are really a way to keep the prices on those items higher. Otherwise, why not just let people buy things at the sale price or 40% off the regular price, whichever is less? I hate having to come back when an item isn't on sale in order to buy it.

Smilie, I only shop at Jo-Ann's or Hancock Fabrics if there's nothing else around or I don't have anything in my stash. Store policies are not the same from day to day depending on who is on duty. It's most aggravating. Other than patterns, I rarely buy anything on sale.

I was in Joann's on Sat. I had 4-50% off coupons and was able to use 3 which really surprised me. Generally if they have 50% coupons out there everything is on sale in the store. I needed thread so got what I needed and picked up a Threads magazine as it had an article I was interested in. Didn't see any sale signs at the rack so thought I was finally going to get a magazine for less than an arm and a leg. Nope, didn't happen, they were 10% off. Oh, well, I got it anyways and gave my 4th coupon away.
Marty, you got it right when you said that policies change at stores from day to day depending on who is working. I only buy when something is on sale or I have a coupon, the cost of fabric is getting more and more expensive. The cotton knits I used to get for $4.99 are now $12.99
Miss Fleecy my Joann's use to give us the option of buying a sale item at full price and using the coupon we had or buying it at the stated sale price. Sure made it nice when we had a 50% coupon and the sale item was less off.

My Hobby Lobby here dies that, Brockie. They will let me use the 40 % off of full price if the item is on sale for a lesser percentage point. The store Mgr will not, but I avoid her when I see her operating a register. I never pay full price for anything to do with sewing. Prices are much too high. I will wait for $ 1.00 sales on patterns, always. the 3 main ones are on sale every month, and I never use Vogue anyway. And Kwik Sew patterns are made to last forever, because they are traced and never wear out. And they are alwo classic styles , never faddish, which adds to their longevity, also.So, I catch them at a small sale price and then buy what I need. I am still using the tee and sweat shirt pattern I got from them 25 years ago, when Shirley Adams came here for a program I attended. That was a gift we got for attending the program., along with a free vogue pattern. I never used the Vogue, the instructions were not well written. Kinda like pattern Instructions of today turn out sometimes.

Shop your stash,and magazine shelf....have I ever saved lots of money this pass year....Excellent idea if you have a stash like mine...ha ha
