Another Canadian

New postby Sancin on Sun Aug 19, 2007 6:48 pm

Hi from Nancy aka Sancin. I moved over from SWN where I was settled for 3-4 years. I live in Prince George, BC - 500 miles north of US border and 500 miles inland from the Pacific. The real great white northener! But still south of Sherri :eh: I was born and raised by the saltchuck thus have web feet and still long for the tang. I have sewn all most anything for as long as I can remember.
I am 66 years old. I was married for 20 years and have been divorced for 20 years. I love being single and free. :D
I have a 37 yr old son who lives in Montreal with his wife but no children on the horizon. Son owns a performance lighting company - travels a lot with big names through which I live vicariously as I do not like travelling. And, I have a 36 year old daughter who moved just last week from the Toronto area to Vancouver with her Portuguese husband and my only grandchild - dear one year old Cooper. She is a health psychologist who works in research rather than clinical practice. ;) Amazing what we spawn.
I retired from nursing 4 years ago, thus officially RN, retired. I worked all of my working life span. For most of my career I was a nurse educator. I taught everything from short continuing ed courses, refresher nursing programs to LPN to BSN programs, primarily in RN programs (US = ADN). My area of practice and focus was family nursing with some surgical nursing, though I have worked in most nursing areas including community nursing. When our diploma nursing program evolved into a BSN program I developed and taught alternate/complementary healing methods into our traditional healing course - a life long interest. More than you probably wanted to know, but explains some of my responses to posts. ;)
I also have been involved with computers for 20 years, including using mainframes, but the speed of technology tends to overwhelm me. I have a chronic pain/fatigue syndrome as well as extensive degenerative joint problems, which led to my not so early retirement. :( I read a great deal, sew and quilt and but am being forced to cut back on my life long gardening. I hate housework and, while used to do extensive cooking and baking, I have 'been there and done that'. But I am crazy enough to recently undertaken to have some home renovations started.
I look forward to continuing to 'communicate'/share new and old ideas with friends and other members. My goal this year is to sew down my stash and sew my McKenna Ryan quilt.
My signature shows while I get little sewing/quilting done.

PS What is an uber geek - a smilie in list?

Hi Nancy - uber is a slang term for "very" or extremely or "ultra". A geek is a nerd or a socially inept but potentially intelligent person.

Glad to see you here.

I just had to make sure that there was someone else out there with a huge project sitting there just waiting for the right time to get at it, calling out to you, teasing you...,.
